Common Ground's Alan Draper comments on
Daily Mail article on block management
27th October 2010
The Daily Mail published an article entitled "Homeowners ripped off by managing agents charging sky high fees". To read the article in full cick here. Alan Draper, MD of Block Management specialist Common Ground welcomed the article and would like to see further exposue of bad practice in block and estate management
Common Ground was set up in 2008 by Alan Draper, himself a long term owner of a leasehold property. "I set up Common Ground to address poor practice in block management". To my mind, the two biggest gaps in the offerings of managing agents were transparency of service charge expenditure and an unwillingness to spend time at the properties they manage".
Common Ground addresses both of these problems by providing all clients with a secure login area on the Common Ground website and through regular site visits and meetings with leaseholders. "All correspondence relating to service charge expenditure including original contractors invoices, work schedules, bank statements, insurance details etc are posted to client websites. This way, service charge expenditure is completely transparent".
"I was also amazed that so many property managers would not leave the confines of their office to actually go out and manage the properties in their portfolio. My clients frequently see me sat in their car parks meeting contractors and leaseholders. With modern tools and communications there is simply no reason for the modern day property manager to be office bound"
